HOLISTIC COUNSELLING +
HOLISTIC COUNSELLING +
Philosophy—
As society evolves, we as educators, parents and health professionals have a responsibility to follow suit. In simple terms, there is no longer room for stigma when it comes to engaging in mental health support. By taking a compassionate approach and using evidence based frameworks, over the past 13 years I have coached and counselled classical musicians, aspiring academics, athletes and dancers as they work to make their dreams reality.
Holistic and compassion focused, my private practice counselling work is both client lead and trauma informed. Together, through the power of therapeutic conversation, we will work together to gently identify unhelpful patterns and create a safe base from which sustainable growth is possible. By harnessing my core values of:
Equity
Generativity
Compassion and
Authenticity
I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for my clients to look within and explore new possibilities. Working collaboratively and intuitively with each individual, allows clients to move at their own pace in order to establish a stable sense of self-worth, and in turn, find their voice. By taking a humanistic approach, I seek to empower each client by seeing them as experts in their own lives and encouraging their self-determination. During our time together, I provide accessible handouts detailing topics explored, ensuring my clients (and their loved ones) have clear guidelines and a tangible pathway forward.
My unique approach is personalised and holistic, drawing from evidence-based therapeutic frameworks including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as well as complimentary practices and theories including whole-food nutrition, somatic experiencing, polyvagal theory, meditation, yoga, Evidence Based Emotional Freedom Technique (EBEFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Mindful Self-Compassion.
Research has identified a clear link between self-compassion practices and psychological resilience in both adolescents and adults. By delivering sessions mindfully, self-compassion is not only encouraged but also modelled. Combining my counselling, meditation therapy and health coaching qualifications with my lived experience as an elite classical ballet dancer and highly sensitive person allows me to support students and parents from a place of understanding, knowledge and, most importantly, authenticity. Having personally lived through the highs and lows of performing at an elite level, moving overseas at 16 to study ballet full-time, struggling with confidence, body image and self-worth, to a career-ending injury and subsequent surgeries… I know first-hand the unique challenges faced by high achieving young people and their families.

“Jess was my first ever counsellor, and boy oh boy did she teach my a lot. Jess provides an extremely safe, nurturing and neutral space for emotions to be expressed, held and processed. She is very aware of the needs and requirements of dance, making her the perfect fit for dance counselling and support. Jess supported me in many ways throughout the most major struggles I underwent, and she never failed to show up without her beautiful smile and a warm hug. I am forever grateful for this amazing human and couldn’t recommend her more. A safe, healing, supportive leader.”
— Lucy, Health + Mindset Coach
“With expert and intuitive counselling, Jess was able to untangle our problems and anxieties. The relief was immediate and the continuing impact she has made on our lives is priceless! Jess has an intricate knowledge of the ballet world and all the associated pitfalls and promise. She provided invaluable, concrete steps and armed us with practical resources and solutions to draw on time and again. Jess was totally invested in improving our situation in the most supportive and generous way possible. She lifted the weight from our shoulders and we give our heartfelt thanks to her.”
— Fiona, parent
“Jess has such a gift for knowing exactly what you need to hear or do at the right time. Personally and as a parent of a young adult, Jess’s guidance and knowledge of her field has been invaluable. We have both made such a deep connection with Jess. ”
