Holistic Support for Dance Students & Professionals

Philosophy—
My approach to counselling is holistic and trauma-aware, weaving together evidence-based frameworks, neuroscience, and gentle complementary practices. I aim to foster a safe, warm, and nonjudgmental space for dancers to explore what might be troubling them, what might help them to know themselves, and where they might find greater meaning and connection in their lives.
Working intuitively and collaboratively, I meet individuals where they are, allowing them to move at their own pace, establish a stable sense of self-worth, and find their voice. By taking a strengths-based approach, I seek to empower dancers, seeing them as experts in their own lives and encouraging their self-determination. During our time together, we will look beyond labels to uncover the wisdom behind body symptoms, emotions and mental health challenges. I regularly incorporate embodied techniques, including breath work, evidence-based EFT (tapping), and somatic experiencing, and provide accessible psychoeducation, including handouts and digital resources.
Combining my counselling and meditation therapy qualifications with my lived experience as a classical ballet dancer and teacher allows me to support dancers and their loved ones from a place of compassion, authenticity and deep understanding. Having personally lived through the highs and lows of performing at an elite level, moving overseas at 16 to study ballet full-time, struggling with body image and confidence, to a career-ending injury and subsequent surgeries— I know first-hand the unique challenges faced by dancers and their families.
Over my 20+ years as a classical ballet teacher, I walked beside hundreds of students as they navigated their dance journeys. While it was an honour and privilege to train and mentor my students as they competed in international competitions like the Prix de Lausanne, transitioned to finishing schools and entered companies, these experiences further highlighted the harsh realities of an industry in dire need of change. In short, there is no excuse for the level of mistreatment taking place in the dance industry. Understanding this harmful culture of unrelenting expectations allows me to support dancers in a way that promotes advocacy and agency, not only resilience, in the face of abuse. I prioritise providing a safe space where difficult experiences are heard, held and validated.

Kind Words—

”Jessica has been an integral part of my daughters ballet journey for the past seven years. Throughout this time Jessica has supported Emily and been a constant source of encouragement, guidance and solace. She has been Emily's cheerleader, guide, sounding board, and pillar of support, ensuring Emily is always prepared for each challenge and success.
Jessica's empathetic nature and professional expertise have had a profoundly positive impact on Emily and our family. She has created a safe space and trusting environment where Emily feels supported and understood.”
—Lisa, parent
“I met Jess when I was 16 and to this day she is part of my life. Over the years, she taught me how to trust myself and to understand all the hard situations we face as dancers.
When I first started ballet I honestly had no idea what I was stepping into and the challenges I faced felt all consuming. Jess was an anchor during those times, she supported me from every angle. Together we navigated the best and worst times. She supported me through the training, the auditions, the jobs, the pandemic, and now all the way in Germany, I know she is always there.
I have never met someone who wholeheartedly believed in me and understood the person I wanted to be. Holistic and genuine, her guidance is irreplaceable. A mentor for life.“
—Dani, Professional Dancer, Germany
“Jess' expertise as a counsellor is bolstered by her intimate understanding of the dance world, and its unique challenges, informed by her lived experience as a dancer and teacher.
Jess’ counselling practice remains fundamentally separate from dance institutions, meaning dancers can speak freely and privately about their concerns, and work with her to find solutions. This is a particularly rare and important resource for dancers.
Jess offered me much care and guidance during a difficult point in my personal and professional life, and remains a trusted part of my support system.”
— Noah, Professional Dancer, France

All Welcome—
I welcome individuals from all walks of life, with diverse experiences, bodies, and identities. I recognise the societal structures of oppression that shape the lived realities of LGBTIQI+ people, those with disabilities, neurodiverse individuals, BIPOC communities, and others. My aim is to foster a safe space where you can fully express yourself, your body, and your needs, free from any form of discrimination. As a queer, white-bodied person who uses the pronouns she/they, I am always open to learning how individuals prefer to be recognised, if that is something they wish to share.
